Optical Brighteners
Fluorescent whitening agents that enhance brightness and whiteness of plastics.
Principle
OBAs absorb ultraviolet light (340-380nm) and re-emit it as visible blue light (420-470nm), creating a brighter, whiter appearance by compensating for yellow tones.
Chemical Properties
UV absorption peak: 340-380nm. Blue fluorescence emission: 420-470nm. Excellent heat stability up to 300°C with high polymer compatibility.
Manufacturing Process
Synthesized through multi-step organic reactions including diazotization and coupling, with careful purification to achieve high whitening efficiency.
Application Methods
Dosage: 0.01-0.05% (very low concentration). Add during compounding or masterbatch production. Most effective in white or light-colored products.
